第1回全世界フルコンタクト空手道選手権大会の開催まで、いよいよ3ヶ月を切りました。
　本大会の出場権を懸けた戦いは、昨年5月の日本およびヨーロッパ選抜戦を皮切りに、世界10地区において熾烈な予選が展開されました。そして、本年1月25日にアフリカ選抜戦が行われ、全予選がついに終了。各地区の代表選手が決定し、いよいよ世界最高峰の舞台へと挑みます。

　本大会には、大小さまざまなフルコンタクト空手の「実技団体（連盟）」が参戦しています。この実技団体とは、フルコンタクト空手の競技性を基盤としながらも、それぞれ独自の技術体系を持ち、独自の資格審査によって段級位が認定される団体を指します。今大会の出場選手の中心はWKO（新極真会）ですが、それに加えて極真会館各派、芦原会館、極真連合会、極真拳武會、白蓮会館（W.K.O）、全極真、チカラ極真、アリーナ極真、極真館、総極真、IFK、KWF、WKB、松島派、極真流、士道館といった国際的な組織や空手母国日本国内の各団体からも錚々たる強豪が名を連ねています。

　1月末日をもって出場エントリーの受付が締め切られ、現在、本部では各地区に割り当てられた規定の出場枠の調整が進められています。定数を満たさなかった地区の「返上枠」を精査し、最適な出場枠配分を確定していきます。また、過去3年間に開催された主要国際実技団体の大会結果を基に、各地区の競技力を偏差値分析。選抜順位をポイントランキング化し、これに地区別の競技力指数を掛け合わせることで、シード選手のランクを決定していきます。

　そして、3月6日、東京都内のホテルにて、緑健児理事長をはじめとする国際理事が一堂に会し、「トーナメント第一次編成会議」が開催されます。 ここで仮組みされたトーナメントは、その後、各地区のバランスや過去の対戦実績、流派・団体の特性など、さまざまな観点から精査が加えられ、最終的な形へと仕上げられます。

　迎える本戦は、5月31日・6月1日、有明アリーナにて開催。 1万人以上を収容する新設のこの舞台に、世界中のフルコンタクト空手家が集結します。老若男女、流派や団体、さらには国境を越え、フルコンタクト空手を愛する者すべてが一堂に会する時がついに訪れます。

Entry report for the 1st World Fullcontact Karate Championship

There are less than three months left until the 1st WFKO Championship.
The battles for the right to participate in this championship began with the Japan and European selection tournaments last May, followed by fierce qualifying rounds in 10 regions around the world. With the completion of the African selection tournament on January 25th of this year, all qualifying rounds were finally completed. The representatives from each region have been selected and will finally take on the world’s highest stage.

This championship is attended by Fullcontact karate sports organizations (federations) of various sizes. These organizations are based on the Fullcontact karate style, but each has its own unique technical system and its Dan and Kyu grades certification through its own qualification examination. In this championship, in addition to the WKO(Shinkyokushinkai) fighters who take up the largest portion of the competitors, there are numerous prominent fighters are listed from international organizations and Japan only based organizations alike, namely, different schools of Kyokushin Kaikan, Ashihara Kaikan, Kyokushin Rengokai, Kyokushin Kenbukai, Byakuren Kaikan (W.K.O.), Zen Kyokushin, Chikara Kyokushin, Arena Kyokushin, Kyokushinkan, Sokyokushin, IFK, KWF, WKB, Matsushima group, Kyokushin-ryu, and Shidokan, etc.

The application has closed by the end of January, and the headquarters is currently in the process of adjusting the allocated slots to each region. We will carefully examine the “returned slots” from regions where no applicable competitors are selected and finalize the optimal distribution of all slots. In addition, we will determine the seed ranking of competitors; Based on the results in tournaments organized by the major international sports organizations over the past three years, we determine the deviation of the competitiveness of each region, convert the selection ranking into a point ranking, then multiplying this by the competitiveness index for each region.

On March 6th, the 1st Tournament Draw Meeting will be held at a hotel in Tokyo, with all international board members including President Kenji Midori gathering. The tentatively assembled tournament draws are then examined from a variety of perspectives, including the balance of each region, past match records, and the characteristics of schools and groups, before being finalized.

The main event will be held at Ariake Arena on May 31st and June 1st. Fullcontact karatekas from all over the world will gather on this newly built stage that can accommodate over 10,000 people. The time has finally come for all those who love Fullcontact Karate to come together, regardless of age, gender, school, group, or even national borders.
